Email migration to Exchange Online Mac Mail settings

If you have been notified that your email account has been migrated by ITS from exchange hybrid, to Canisius Exchange online, a couple of changes are required to send/receive email on your apple device.

For the best experience, fastest set-up, and to take advantage of all that MS exchange has to offer, we highly recommend downloading the Outlook app for macOS from the Mac App Store

To set up on your apple device using the Mail App:

Removing your old email settings from the Mail app

  1. Go to “System Preferences” on your Mac and scroll down on the left menu to find and select “Internet Accounts”

  2. Select the entry for your old Canisius email settings, then at the bottom, select “Delete Account”

Adding your settings back into the Mail app

  1. From the “Internet Accounts” menu, select “Add Account…”, then select “Microsoft Exchange”

  2. Type in your full Canisius email address (yourusername@canisius.edu), then select “Sign In”

  3. When prompted to “Sign in to your Exchange account using Microsoft?”, select the “Sign In” button to proceed

  4. You will then be redirected to the Canisius SSO page where you can enter your username and password to sign in

  5. You will then be given the option to select which items to sync with the Mail app. Make sure that at least “Mail” is selected, then select “Done”.

  6. From here you can close out of the System Preferences window, then open your Mail app to confirm access to your Inbox. The first time connecting your Mail app will start synchronizing with the server (this may take several minutes to complete)
