Steps to take when regaining access to a compromised / disabled gmail account
Change the password on your account. Make sure you use a unique password that is not used anywhere else.
After the password is reset, be sure to notify the ITS Help Desk that your password has been updated.
Things to check if your gmail account was compromised. Make sure no filters were created to delete your email.

Make sure your email is not being forwarded to an address you are not familiar with.

Check to make sure your current emails were not sent to the trash folder
Make sure the signature file was not changed or another one added to your account.
