Java Updates for MacIntosh Computers

Java v8 is now supported on campus


You can now safely update to the latest versions of Java 8.  Instructions are below.  Be aware that some custom settings are required as described below.

  1. First, you will need to download the latest version of Java 8 using the link below.

2. To install, double click on the .dmg file downloaded in step #1. You will get a new window opened with the install application. Double click the installer to continue.

3. Follow the onscreen prompts to continue and install the Java software. When complete, a new web browser window will open and verify the Java installation and version.

4. Then, you may close the installer and the web browser window

 

5. Next, open the System Preferences from the Apple menu () in the upper left corner of the screen.

6. Select the Java Preferences along the bottom row.

7. Click on the Advanced tab along the top of the window.

8. Scroll down to the Advanced Security Settings and Uncheck "Use certificates and keys in browser keystore", Uncheck "Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format", Check "Use TLS 1.0", UnCheck "Use TLS 1.1", and UnCheck "Use TLS 1.2"

9. Close the Java Control Panel and System Preferences. You should be all set. Test your Java required applications to be sure.
