macOS Sequoia - Wired Setups: Connection issues accessing Canisius website

A new feature of macOS Sequoia (v15.x) increases security for applications that access local resources. If your Mac is connected via ethernet, you may run into issues accessing https://www.canisius.edu and https://outlook.canisius.edu if your web browser and/or Outlook app are not allowed in the System Settings.

From the Apple in the upper left of the screen, select “System Settings”, then navigate on the left menu to “Privacy & Security”. On the right menu, scroll down to “Local Network”

System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network

From here, you should see a listing of apps that have requested access to the Local Network. Make sure all entries are enabled to allow access.

A couple of common applications that require local network access include your web browser (Chrome or Firefox) for the web and Microsoft Outlook for email. When opening those apps on the new version of macOS, you will be prompted to allow access to the Local Network. Select Allow when prompted or follow the previous steps to enable the app in System Settings.

Information on Legacy / Outdated Applications

If you are not prompted to allow the app and are still having issues connecting and the option to enable does not exist in System Settings, you may need to download a fresh copy of the web browser to replace your current app in the Applications folder. When opening the fresh copy of the app you will be prompted to allow access to the local network when connected to a wired connection if it accesses the Local Network.

Older versions of apps and those not properly updated by app developers may not prompt to allow access or show on the Local Network menu under Privacy & Security.

For apps like Microsoft Office, running Microsoft AutoUpdate on your Mac will install the latest version supported via Office365. If you are running an older version (such as Office 2019), you may need to contact the Help Desk to install the latest version from Microsoft’s office.com website.
