Selecting HDMI Audio Output

After you have connected your laptop with the HDMI cable and selected the laptop input on the Control Panel or with the Remote Control, one additional step might still be required to hear your laptop audio from the room's sound system.

Windows 11

  1. On the Task Bar, click the Quick settings icon to open the Quick Settings menu by clicking the hidden button around the speaker icon in the lower-right corner of the taskbar.
  2. In the popup Quick Settings menu, click the sideways arrow (caret) beside the volume slider.
  3. When you see a list of audio output devices, select the room's system as your output.  How this will be labeled depends on the equipment in the room, for example "Extron HDMI" or "Crestron HD audio".
  4. The volume slider will effect how loud your Laptops sound is, along with the room's volume controls.
Click the area to the left of the clock in the taskbar to bring up the Quick Settings menu.

Windows 10

  1. On the Task Bar, Click the Speaker icon on the right hand side.
  2. In the popup menu, click the name of your current default sound device in the menu.
  3. From the list, select the room's system as your output.  How this will be labeled depends on the equipment in the room, for example "Extron HDMI" or "Crestron HD audio".
  4. The volume slider will effect how loud your Laptops sound is, along with the room's volume controls.


macOS 11 and newer

  1. Click on the control center icon in the Menu Bar.
  2. Click on Sound.
  3. From the Output options, select the room's system as your output.  It will be located below the built-in speakers for your laptop.  How this will be labeled depends on the equipment in the room, for example "Extron HDMI" or "Crestron HD audio".
  4. System volume will now be controlled solely by the room's volume controls.

    

macOS 10.14 and 10.15

  1. Click on the Volume icon in the Menu Bar.
  2. Select the room's system as your output.  It will be located below the built-in speakers for your laptop.  How this will be labeled depends on the equipment in the room, for example "Extron HDMI" or "Crestron HD audio".
  3. System volume will now be controlled solely by the room's volume controls.

Older versions of Mac OS

  1. Open the Apple Menu (click on  in the upper-left corner) and select System Preferences.
  2. Click on the Sound icon.
  3. Click on the Output tab.
  4. Select the room's system as your output.  It will be located below the built-in speakers for your laptop.  How this will be labeled depends on the equipment in the room, for example "Extron HDMI" or "Crestron HD audio".
  5. System volume will now be controlled solely by the room's volume controls.
