The Teacher Scanning Tool allows faculty to upload individual student documents to scan for plagiarism and detect AI. The following steps will show how to install the Teacher Scanning Tool into your course. If you are interested in using Copyleaks for the entire class, please take a look at the Create an Assignment tutorial.

Create a new Module in D2L. Title it Copyleaks Scanning or something similar.

Hide the new module by clicking the Eye icon underneath Settings to the right.

Click on Add Existing Activities.

Click on Copyleaks Teacher Scan Tool in the menu that appears.

A pop-up will appear saying “Generating new can tool” with the Copyleaks C logo.

When finished, the pop-up will automatically close and a new link should appear in our module titled “Teacher Scanning Tool”. Click on it.

We will be taken to a dashboard that says “Get started by uploading files”. To get started, click on Scan Documents in the upper-right.

The page will update and we can now click on Upload Files.

When we do, our computer’s File Explorer will open up. From there, select the file or files you want to scan. In this example, we are using TheHistoryofComputers.docx (a completely AI generated document).

Click on Scan in the lower-right to start the scan.

The scan will take a few minutes or more, depending on the length of the document.
