National Endowment for the Humanities Innovation Fund
Call for Proposals
Fall 2022
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce funding to support innovation by full time faculty. New ideas in instruction, curriculum, research, or mission related activities are eligible; each application should show how the proposed activity will bring change to Canisius College or to the faculty member’s research, teaching, or service. Awards will be up to $1,000.00 per faculty member.
Preference will be given to projects that engage in innovative teaching (e.g. simulations, experiential learning, guest speakers, course materials). Research activities that contribute to a new scholarships stream or project are also eligible (e.g. purchasing new equipment, databases, or software, travel to archives, field work). Interdisciplinary and Ignatian-related projects are especially encouraged. Funded work must be completed by May 31, 2023.
The use of such funds for travel to professional conferences is permitted under this program only if it can be demonstrated that conference participation will assist a faculty member in incorporating specific new materials or methodologies into instruction. Such funding is not intended as a supplement to, or replacement for, regular travel funds. “Virtual” conferences and workshops will be eligible for funding.
Eligible faculty members can receive funding for one project each fiscal year. Subsequent grants are dependent upon the demonstrated effectiveness of a funded project, and are not intended to cover recurring expenses. Successful applicants will be required to submit a post award report. Future awards will seek to fund new applicants.
Support for the Innovation Fund comes from the National Endowment for the Humanities. In 1978 Canisius College received an Education Challenge Grant which created an endowed fund whose proceeds support this program. Any presentation or publication that results from this grant program must acknowledge the NEH and the College of Arts & Sciences at Canisius College.
Application Procedure:
Submit a description of the activity, how it is innovative, its potential impact, a budget, and supporting documentation to serwacki@canisius.edu. Email text will suffice.
Application Deadline is October 1; awards announced by October 15th. Projects initiated since the start of the academic year (June 1) are eligible.
I look forward to reading your applications,
Tom
