Copyleaks: Use Copyleaks in a D2L Dropbox

Copyleaks: Use Copyleaks in a D2L Dropbox

Copyleaks can now be directly integrated into a D2L Dropbox. This tutorial details how to do that.

1

In the D2L Dropbox Editor, click on the Evaluation & Feedback section.

2

Click on Add External Tool under the External Learning Tools section.

A pop-up will appear, providing a few quick settings and scanning options. For additional settings, click on Advanced Settings. Otherwise, the defaults will be fine.

Click on Register Tool in the bottom-left.

Note: We may be asked to accept an End User License Agreement (EULA). Read through it carefully and accept. Students will also need to accept the EULA for Copyleaks to scan their writing assignments. For both Faculty and Students, the EULA only needs to be accepted once.

When we register the tool, we should see a quick summary in the External Learning Tools section:

If we need to edit the Scanner settings later on, we can click on the three horizontal dots to the right. Then, click on Edit Settings. A new tab will open, which will allow us to edit the scan settings.

If we wish to remove Copyleaks from the Dropbox, click on the three horizontal dots and click on Delete. A pop-up will appear asking if we are sure. Keep in mind that any assignments submitted after we delete the tool may not be scanned.

Students must accept the EULA for Copyleaks to scan their document. If they do not, we will see a Processing Error. As of 10-20-2025, Copyleaks does not really provide an option to re-scan nor an alternative method for accepting the EULA except from the D2L Dropbox Submission screen. One workaround is for the student to re-submit the assignment and accept the EULA before submitting again, the tutorial for which is here: https://canisius.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/hd/pages/578748421/Copyleaks+Troubleshooting+Copyleaks#Troubleshooting-the-Copyleaks-EULA. Alternatively, instructors can download the submissions and run them through the https://canisius.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/hd/pages/448561159.
