Microsoft Teams: Share a Team
In Microsoft Teams, the most prominent way to add additional people to a team is by adding people individually, as shown here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/add-members-to-a-team-in-microsoft-teams-aff2249d-b456-4bc3-81e7-52327b6b38e9.
However, this may not be the most convenient way, particularly when we need to add many people at once. Below, we review two ways that Microsoft Teams allows us to share a Team so others can join.
Table of Contents
Creating a Team Sharing Link
| 1 | In a Team you have already created, click on the three horizontal dots to the right of the Team name. |
|
| 2 | Click on “Get link to team” in the menu that appears. |
|
| 3 | Click on Copy in the pop-up that appears. |
|
| 4 | We can now paste the link into an email (CTRL+V or CMD+V or right-click and choose paste) or install the link into D2L: Creating Links in D2L - Transcript

Approving Members
We may need to approve people who click on the link to a Team.
| 1 | Click on the three horizontal dots to the right of the name of the Team. | |
| 2 | Click on Manage team in the menu that appears. |
|
| 3 | Click on the Pending requests tab and approve those necessary. |
|
Create a Team Code
Optionally, if we want to skip the approval process/join requests, we can create a Team Code. Microsoft Support’s documentation is here:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/create-a-link-or-a-code-for-joining-a-team-in-microsoft-teams-11b0de3b-9288-4cb4-bc49-795e7028296f
| 1 | In a Team, click on the three horizontal dots to the right of the Team name. Click on Manage Team in the menu that appears. | |
| 2 | Click on Settings in the navbar above. | |
| 3 | Find and click on Team Code. |
|
| 4 | Click on Generate to generate the code. |
|
| 5 | We can then share this code via email. To join a Team with a code, see Microsoft’s tutorial: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/use-a-link-or-code-to-join-a-team-in-microsoft-teams-c957af50-df15-46e3-b5c4-067547b64548 |
