D2L: Special Characters in the Text Editor
In D2L, you can add special characters wherever you see the D2L Text Editor (i.e., module descriptions, D2L Files, discussion prompts/replies, etc.). Special characters in this case include à, ã, æ, ë, etc. For more information, check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unicode_characters#Latin-1_Supplement from Wikipedia. The Unicode provided in the Wikipedia article can be copied and pasted (you will need to be in the HTML Source Editor view, which is different from the normal Text Editor view) or copy and paste the particular character from the Wikipedia article. We can also use special characters from Google Docs and Microsoft Word, but we will need to look through and double-check that all of the special characters carried through properly.
NOTE: if you are looking to insert a mathematical equation, please see Insert and edit equations with Equation Editor - Brightspace tutorial from D2L.

4 | In the pop-up that appears, it will show all of the special characters that we can insert. However, we can filter character types on the left. In this tutorial, we will want to use “Extended Latin”. **NOTE: While Mathematical symbols are available here, we highly recommend using the equation editor, noted above. | Showing the special character pop-up; highlighting Extended Latin.

5 | Then find and click on the symbol that we want to use to automatically insert it where the cursor is in our text. | Showing that we added À
