Disabling Firefox Updates

Firefox has moved to a rapid release update cycle, with new versions being pushed out on highly accelerated schedules.  Unfortunately, this can cause problems with a variety of web applications, including ANGEL.  ITS recommends that users disable automatic updates to Firefox in order to assure compatibility with campus applications.

To disable automatic updates in Firefox...

PC

1.  With Firefox open, find the "Options" menu.  Depending on which version of Firefox you're currently using, this can be found either under the Tools menu or by clicking on "Firefox" in the top left corner of the window.

2.  From the options window, Go to the "Advanced" tab.  Under the advanced tab, go to the "Update" tab.

3.  Un-check Firefox under "Automatically check for updates to:"

4.  Close the options window.  Firefox will no longer automatically check for updates.

Mac

1.  With Firefox open, click "Firefox" from the menu bar, and select "Preferences."

2. Click on "Advanced," in the top row of icons.  On the Advanced tab, click "Update."

3. On the update tab, un-check Firefox under "Automatically check for updates to:"

4. Close the preferences pane.  Firefox will no longer check for updates automatically.
