Add a Canisius Google Drive to your Android Phone or Tablet
You can work with files in your Canisius Google Drive on your Android phone or tablet. This includes uploading to that Google Drive content, such as images or video, you created with that device.
Android may look more or less different, depending on your phone or tablet. The screenshots below are of a Google Pixel 2 phone running Android version 11. Different versions of Android, on devices made by different manufacturers are connected to different service providers may look different, but the Google Drive app should work similarly across devices.
Installing Your Canisius Account as a Google Account
The Google Drive app is pre-installed on many Android devices, and if it is not already on your device, is easily downloadable from the Google Play App Store.
In the above image, this device has the Google Drive App installed, and the yellow arrow points to it's icon.
If you open the Google Drive app you may see content from a Google Drive already installed in the app. You probably have a Google account that is separate and unrelated to Canisius College, that’s attached to an @gmail.com email address, and you are seeing that drive. That’s OK; it will not interfere with your Canisius Google Drive and you’ll be able to use either Google Drive separately from one another, in the same app on your device.
In the upper right, click the circle icon, to the right of "Search in Drive." In the example above the icon is a picture, but it could just be a simple letter, too.
The above screen will show you which accounts are currently installed. If you have more than one you can easily switch between them to see and use the different Google Drives, but for now, click "Add another account."
Google will direct you to supply the email address that's associated with your account. However, for Canisius Google Drives, we supply a modified version that our Canisius email address: username@my.canisius.edu. Add your own username where you see "username," but then add “my.” after the @ sign but before canisius.edu. This creates a special identifier that Google uses for your Canisius Google account, and is necessary so the Google Drive app learns that yours is a Canisius enterprise education account. After you've keyed in your Google identifier, tap "Next."
The app will then present you with a screen confirming that you are accessing an "my.canisius.edu" account. Tap "Accept."
Here's a familiar screen: the Canisius login. Now simply enter your Canisius College username and password, and tap "Login." After that, you should see your Canisius Google Drive content populate your Google Drive app.
Adding Media to Your Google Drive
Typically, apps that allow you to use your camera or edit photos and videos have an option to send or "save" media to your Google Drive. They often use similar icons. In the below screenshot, the red arrow points to a very common "share" icon on Android:
Sharing options often include various locations or modes of sharing. If you have the Google Drive app installed, its icon is typically among the options. Follow-on screens will allow you to choose or create a folder on your Google Drive to accept the uploaded media. In the below screenshot, you can see the Google Drive icon in the lower left:
