D2L: Add a New D2L Activity to the Content Area
In this tutorial, we show how to add a New D2L activity (Discussions, Assignments, and Quizzes) to the Content area. In the following tutorial, we focus on add a new Assignment, but the process will be similar for Discussions and Quizzes.
Fall 2026: The Dropbox tool was renamed to Assignment.
| 1 | In a module the Content area, click on the blue New button. Select New Assignment in the menu that appears. | Showing New>New Assignment

| 2 | The familiar Assignment editor will appear. Fill out the necessary information for the Assignment. Not ready to have students see the Assignment yet? Toggle the visibility setting at the bottom or change the Start Date visibility settings to Hidden, which will hide the Assignment until the Start Date. | Showing the Assignment Editor

| 4 | When we do, we will be taken to the Activity Screen, which allows us to do some basic editing of the Activity. Click on the module title in the breadcrumbs to go back to the module view. If we want to fully edit the Assignment, we need to go to the Assignments tab. | Showing the Activity Overview page

| 5 | We should see the Assignment in the module. If there were other activities or content in the module, the Assignment will appear at the bottom of the list. We can click on the squares/dots to the left of the Assignment title to move it within that module and/or move it to a different module if we accidentally put it in the wrong module. | Showing the module with the Assignment in it
