In some cases, we may want to turn off the Chat feature in Microsoft Teams. This page shows three ways how to do that.
A brief overview of how to screen share in Teams.

Learn how to add a co-organizer to a meeting, including what permission(s) a co-organizer has. NOTE: to add a co-organizer to a meeting, they must be added as a “Required Attendee” first and they must have a @canisius.edu email address (i.e., be part of Canisius). See https://canisius.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/hd/pages/761397260 on how to allow outside attendees to share their screen.

Automatically Activate Captions/Transcripts in Teams Meetings
Learn how to share and/or download a Microsoft Teams recording.
There are several ways to download a recorded Microsoft Teams meeting.
Meeting Chats
The default for a Teams Meeting Chat is to persist after the meeting (though organizers can choose to turn the Chat option Off or Only during the meeting in the Meeting Settings). See how to leave a Chat. This tutorial works for normal Chats too.
NOTE: Organizers of meetings CANNOT leave a meeting chat. Instead, organizers can right-click on a Meeting Chat. Then, select the Mute and Hide options to prevent notifications and hide the chat. Check out the link below for more Microsoft Teams Chat options:
Meeting Templates
By default, Teams Meetings have a simple template for most meeting we schedule. However, Teams also offers templates for other types of meetings too.
Template Title | Description | Tutorial Link(s) |
|---|---|---|
Webinar | An interactive event for large groups that includes Registration. Allows public or organization-specific meetings. Can provide presenter bios, customize the theme and registration form, see who registered, preview emails sent to registrants, and more. The meeting chat will be available in the Chat tab. |
|
Town Hall | Similar to a Live Event (see the differences here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/switch-from-microsoft-teams-live-events-to-town-halls-c71bf6e2-ece1-4809-900e-51271f39ac72), but with more features. Can be set to Public so that anyone with the link can join. Using the Theming tab, we can set up a logo and theme color. We can also view Event Invitation and Event Recording Available emails, Reports (such as attendance reports), as well as Recordings (if any). When published, we are provided with a Join Link, Join Details for Organizer, Co-Organizer, and Presenter. An HTML Video Iframe will also be provided. The meeting chat will be available in the Chat tab. | |
Class | By default, Students can only chat during the meeting. We also can quickly set who can bypass the lobby/waiting room, who can present, whether or not attendees can use their mic/camera, and whether or not attendees can chat and when they can chat (On allows them to chat before, during, and after, In-meeting only allows them to chat only during the meeting, and Off completely removes the option to chat). The meeting chat will be available in the Chat tab. | |
Lecture | Similar to the above, but by default students can chat before, after, and during the meeting. The meeting chat will be available in the Chat tab. | |
Live Event | Produce a live event: As the meeting organizer, you are the “producer” of the event and can invite presenters (both within and outside of Canisius). After setting up the Live Event, you will get a shareable Attendee link. The meeting chat will be available in the Chat tab. |
