Hypothes.is: Syllabus Assignment
If you want to make sure that your students are reading the Syllabus, why not have them annotate it using Hypothes.is? Even if you do not plan on using Hypothes.is any further than the Syllabus in your course, it is a good alternative to a discussion or Syllabus Quiz.
| 1 | Add your Syllabus to your D2L Course as a PDF (make sure to OCR it) and then create a Hypothes.is Assignment. If needed, make sure to Auto-Score the Assignment and/or add it to the Grade Book. Make sure to update the name of the assignment! |
|
| 2 | Then, click on the dropdown arrow to the right of the Hypothesis assignment and select “Edit Properties in Place” | Showing the context menu and Edit Properties in Place |
| 3 | Change the name of the Assignment if you did not in Step 1. Also, add the Assignment Instructions by clicking on “Add a description”. The instructions should include what is expected of students (ex., how they should reply, how they should annotate, if there are certain questions they need to answer, how many annotations and/or replies they need if using the auto-grading feature, etc.). Here are some example instructions/Syllabus Annotation Activities: If needed, you can also add Start/End Dates and/or a Due Date. | Showing various options to change
|
| 4 | If desired, “seed” the Syllabus with clarifications of certain policies, ask students leading questions about certain policies or open ended questions if you want student input on policies. |
