Automatic Zero is a grading features that allows instructors to automatically mark zero overdue Dropbox Assignments and Quizzes after the Due Date. The following tutorial will show how to turn on Automatic Zero after the gradebook has already been setup. However, if using the Gradebook Setup Wizard, this setting can be found in Step 3: Grade Calculations. Following along with the video [to be updated at a later date]. A few things to note before getting started: First, this feature relies on Due Dates. Due Dates must be assigned to the dropbox or quiz. Second, we recommend using the Drop Ungraded Items options under Grade Calculations. This will help prevent confusion in the future.

In a D2L Course, click on the Grades Tab.

Click on Settings in the right-center, to the left of Help.

Click on the Calculations Options tab.

Scroll down until we find the Automatic Zero for Missing Submissions. Check the box underneath.

Make sure to click on the blue Save button in the lower-left corner.

Now, when we add a due date to a dropbox assignment or a quiz, it will be automatically marked zero after the due date.
