Some Differences

  • The PRINT BUTTON is missing on the ribbon however if you click on the file tab there is a print option. You can also use the keyboard shortcut CTL-P (the control and p keys are pressed simultaneously).
  • In Outlook 2010 there are functions that are “Grouped” together (refer to the brace beneath the Outlook 2010 ribbon above). These groups make it possible to add more functions immediately available instead of clicking a tool bar menu and making a selection.
  • Outlook 2010 added a tool bar in the upper left corner called the Quick Launch bar. This is customizable too.
    • Here’s a quick tip: to add a function the quick launch tool bar right click on the button you want to add and select Add to Quick Launch Toolbar.

Some Similarities

  • In the illustrations above you’ll see the Outlook 2007 tool bar and beneath it is the Outlook 2010 ribbon.
  • The arrows and brace point to the buttons that reside on both. The F1 key will bring the Help screen up in both versions.
  • If you have used keyboard shortcuts before the same key strokes and combinations will work in Outlook 2010.
  • The tool bars and ribbons are “context sensitive” which means that they change with the application you’re in. For example, the tool bar and the ribbon are different when you switch from e-mail to calendar.
  • The tool bars and ribbons are still customizable.
